Sweden — through time (in Swedish, Sverige — genom tiden) is an interactive 3D documentary: a symbolic miniature city that changes year by year, from industrial society in 1900 to the present day in 2026. Explore how people, welfare, capital and political power interact — change the year with the timeline slider, pick a building or let the story guide you.

The aim is not to hand you a political conclusion but to make complex connections open to scrutiny: politics gives you the question, the visualisation lets you take it apart.

Four areas of society

• People (home · work · everyday life) — Social change becomes concrete at home. Explore the conditions of an invented wage earner and see which questions need answering with historical data.
• Welfare (school · healthcare · care) — Welfare can be examined through three different questions: who funds it, who provides it and who gets access? Those questions need not have the same answer.
• Capital (ownership · companies · finance) — Wages and capital income are different kinds of income. Ownership can bring returns, but it also carries risk. Examine how the make-up of incomes affects the distribution.
• Power (voters · organisations · decisions) — Political decisions are shaped in institutions and through participation. Legislation, organising and shaping public opinion are different relations that need to be examined one at a time.

A first prototype

The world is a fictional miniature city. Seven story chapters test how time, place and explanations you can check might work together. The model is scenery — the number of buildings, the scale and the traffic represent no statistical measures. Read more under sources & method.
